Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6: An 88-year-old woman committed suicide at Venjaramoodu near here by jumping into a pyre which she had herself prepared.
Suffering from cancer, Gomathy Amma prepared the pyre with logs and leaves yesterday night, while her grandson was asleep in the house, police said.
When the neighbours rushed to the spot after seeing the fire, they could only see the charred body of the woman, police said.
They said the woman may have ended her life, as she was unable to bear the pain caused by the disease.
