Woman killed, four others hurt in accident

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 6 (UNI) A 45-year-old woman was killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a loaded rickshaw and a tempo at Sharnapur phata, near here.

Police today said the victims, all from Sharnapur, were returning to their village in the rickshaw, already loaded with people, when it was hit by a speeding tempo coming from the opposite direction yesterday.

Parvati Kanhere was killed on the spot, while the injured were taken to the government medical hospital by villagers.

A case was registered against the driver of the tempo at the cantonment police station, police added.

CPI(M) terms today's "Bangla Bandh" "unsuccessful"

Kolkata, Feb 6 (UNI) The CPI (M) said today's Forward Bloc-sponsored 24-hour ''Bangla Bandh'' had failed to evoke any spontaneous response from the people all over the state. In a statement here, the party said the Forward Bloc supporters resorted to road and rail blockade, preventing people from attending offices. However, functioning in the industrial and tea belts was almost as usual, the statement added. The bandh protagonists had damaged several buses and tried to disrupt.....
