victim's statement not recorded properly:Women's commission

Patan, Feb 6 (UNI) A four-member team of the National Commission for Women, led by Yasmeen Abrar, today condemned the gangrape on a girl by her teachers and termed it as ''a shame on humanity.'' Describing the steps taken for safety and legality to punish the guilty as 'inadequate', Ms Abrar said the statement of victims should have been recorded under section IPC 164 in front of the magistrate by the police to avoid any weakness in the FIR of the case.

The Commission also lamented that the compensation of Rs one-lakh, announced by the Chief Minister Narendra Modi, was inadequate. The victim, who was gangraped by her teachers at primary teachers college here, had undergone medical tests at a civil hospital in Ahmedabad. Apart from Women's Commission, officials of National Human Rights Commission are expected to visit Patan and the college.

The Commission also demanded that the culprits be punished severely for their ''unforgiveable'' act. It will submit its report to the Centre.
