SUCI calls for alternative Left Front, terms bandh as ''total succes

Kolkata, Feb 6 (UNI) Terming today's Forward Bloc-sponsored ''Bangla Bandh'' to protest police firing in Dinhata a ''total success,'' SUCI advocated an alternative Left Front with the RSP, Forward Bloc, CPI(ML) Liberation and other like-minded parties.

Talking to mediapersons, SUCI state secretary Prabash Ghosh said, ''The Left Front does not have its existance as only CPI(M) matters in it and hence the alternative Left Front should be formed with its allies and other parties.'' Mr Ghosh said since 1977, the CPI(M)-led Left Front had failed on all fronts and after the Singur-Nandigram episode it had lost people's support and observed that success of the bandh was not an ''isolated incident.'' Condemning the police firing, which claimed six lives so far, he said, '' There is no explanation of the police firing on the Forward Bloc's supporters exercising their democratic rights. '' He regretted that his party had earlier also urged the Forward Bloc and other allies of the Left Front to come out of it and form the alternative Left Front, which, however, yielded no result.

'' It is only after the Nandigram violence they started revolting against it, '' Mr Ghosh maintained.
