Students caution elector's in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 06: Two students' bodies--Garo Students' Union (GSU) and Garo Hills College Students' Union (GHCSU) have cautioned electors not to accept freebies from aspiring candidates.

''Avoid casting your vote for a bottle of whisky, a cup of tea and a handful of currency, it will serve no purpose for society.

Before casting your vote ask yourself whether your candidate can fulfil his promises?'' the GHCSU said.

The Union also appealed to the Garo people not to choose a candidate based on the Mahari (clan), religion or party affiliation and elect the right people to represent the Garo society.

The GSU, in the meantime, issued a call to the 'A'chik citizens' residing in Khasi Hills and Garo Hills to help bring about a change that has not been seen in this part of the state for the last 35 years.

A single-phase election to the 60-seat Assembly will be held on March 3. Results are expected on March 7.
