Roadways employees to organise gate rallies, demonstration

Jalandhar, Feb 6 (UNI) The Punjab Roadways employees would organise gate rallies and demonstration in coming days if their demands were not met.

This was stated by Punjab Roadways Workers Action Commiittee convenor Balbir Sandhu in a press release issued here today.

He along with other leaders also staged a dharna of transport employees gathered from seven different factions of the state at Inter-State bus terminus here.

Mr Sandhu said that he had a meeting with the Transport Minister Master Mohanlal on January 15 in Chandigarh where the minister was apprised of employees' demands and he had assured to fulfill the same by January 31m but nothing has been done so far.

The demands inlclude promotion of workshop employees, not to deduct money from salaries of drivers in cases of accident, recruiting drivers and conductors on permanent basis and to complete the fleet of 2407 buses in Punjab roadways.

Mr Sandhu said that if their demands were not met, then all employees of state transport would organise gate rallies from February 20 to 28 at 18 depots and would also organise state level demonstration in front of State Transport Directors office in Chandigarh.
