Raj Babbar, Sanjay Dutt to inaugurate Kabaddi tournament

Nagpur, Feb 6 (UNI) Actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar and Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt will inaugurate the All India 'MP's Cup' Kabaddi Tournament for club teams of men and women here tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters here today, Union Minister of State for Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said that Union Minister for Food Processing Subodhkant Sahay, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal, Rajya Sabha member Datta Meghe and Maharashtra Minister for Education Vasant Purke would be the guests of honour at the inaugural function.

The tournament would be held under the aegis of Maratha Lancers, an organisation of which he is President, from February 7 to 10, Mr Muttemwar said. The tournament had been approved by Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India and Vidarbha Kabaddi Association, he said.

Over 60 men's and women's clubs from all over the country, including those from Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Indore, Kolkata, Manipur, Chennai, Kanyakumari and Kerala, would participate in the tournament, Mr Muttemwar said. The prize money included Rupees one lakh in cash for the winners and Rs 75,000 for the runners-up in the men's section, and Rs 71,000 for the winners and Rs 51,000 for the runners-up in the women's section, he said.

In addition, the members of the winner and runners up teams, and the players of the series would each receive 21-inch colour television sets, he added.

Maratha Lancers Secretary Madan Ratan said the trophy had been named 'MP's Cup' in recognition of the fact that Mr Muttemwar is the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Nagpur.

Pedestrian fatally knocked down by lorry

Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) A pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a mini lorry at Tambaram here this evening. Police said Munuswamy (40) was standing on the median, to cross the road, when the lorry hit him. Following the incident, the passersby staged a road blockade demanding arrest of the lorry driver. 22 police officials transferred in UP

Lucknow, Feb 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today transferred 22 police personnel, including five Inspector- Generals of Police (IG) and five Deputy Inspector Generals in the state. According to the State Home Ministry, Praveen Singh, IG, DGP office has replaced Shiv Narayan Singh, IG Kanpur Zone, who moves to Varanasi in the same capacity. Kashmir Singh, IG Varanasi has been placed at DGP office, whereas Bijendra Singh, IG (Admn), DGP's office has been sent.....

New Chief Secretary appointed in K'taka

Bangalore, Feb 6 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today ordered shifting of Chief Secretary P B Mahishi to Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) as its Chairman. According to official sources here, Mr Sudhakar Rao has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Mr Rao was currently Additional Chief Secretary and State Development Commissioner. Mr Mahishi was appointed as Chief Secretary by the previous JD(S)-BJP coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy......
