Nitish for deterrent action against disturbing elements in Mumbai

Patna, Feb 06 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today requested Maharastra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh to take stringent action against the elements spreading hatred towards Hindi speaking people living in that state.

In a letter shot off to Mr Deshmukh, Mr Kumar stated that action taken against such elements should be so harsh that it could act as deterrent for others in coming days.

''The action of certain elements in Maharstara during the past few days was certainly not in the spirit of a democratic society and rights granted in constitution'', Mr Kumar noted and urged Mr Deshmukh to ensure the protection of life and properties of the people from northern and eastern India living in Maharstra.

''The spirit of intolerance and brotherhood among various section of the society must be maintained at any cost'', he emphasised.

17 including former minister injured in Maoists' attack

5-year-old girl raped by drunker man

Ramanathapuram, Feb 6 (UNI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Athiyuthu village near here this evening. Police said the culprit, who was in an inebriated condition, took the girl to a remote location and assaulted her. On hearing the girl's cry, passersby rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. Pedestrian fatally knocked down by lorry

Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) A pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a mini lorry at Tambaram here this evening. Police said Munuswamy (40) was standing on the median, to cross the road, when the lorry hit him. Following the incident, the passersby staged a road blockade demanding arrest of the lorry driver.
