Kuala Terengganu (Malaysia), Feb.6: Malay Indians have welcome deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's assurance of government help for Indians.
Businessman Balbir Singh, 62, said Razak's reaching out to the Malay Indian community is laudable, but this must be translated into action. He hoped this would translate into a temple for the Sikh community, who have had to travel to Kota Baru or Kuantan for prayers. Najib had said the government would look into the grievances of Indians as fast as possible. Addressing some 3,900 delegates at the MIC's one-day special convention at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Najib said the government was going to do "something more" for the community.
The delivery mechanism would be discussed in cabinet. Restaurant owner M. Chandran, 58, said he was more than happy with the way the government conducted business.
MIC Kuala Terengganu division chairman Dr Dayal Krishnan welcome Najib's statement. "We hope it will be reflected on the ground, especially when it comes to employing Indians in the civil service," the New Strait Times quoted him, as saying.
