Lack of connectivity cripples Mizoram : Zoramthanga

Aizawl, Feb 6 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has underlined the fact that lack of connectivity, particularly that of Railways, has badly affected the state.

''If we had good rail connectivity up to the southern parts of the state, the ongoing acute shortage of rice in Mizoram, as a result of the bamboo flowering and its related rodents proliferation last year, would not have been this bad,'' Mr Zoramthanga told delegates of the all India Editors' conference here last evening.

''Among other things, Mizoram has huge potential in the form of bamboo resources. Once the bamboo resources are properly tapped, the state can become the state with the highest per capita income in India,'' Mr Zoramthanga said.

Governor Lakhera urged the national media to stop viewing the Northeast region collectively as a disturbed area.

''Don't come only up to Guwahati and say the Northeast is bad after seeing bomb blasts. Come also to Mizoram and see the tranquility here,'' he exhorted.

Both Governor and Chief Minister emphasised that Mizoram possessed huge potential in various sectors, which were yet to be untapped.
