Indo-Danish partnership on renewable energy on anvil

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) The Danish government today said it is working on two agreements to partner with the Indian government in the renewable energy sector.

''We are working on two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to partner India in the sector of renewable energy,'' Denmark State Secretary Anne Steffensen said while addressing the Indo-Danish Energy Seminar here.

One of the MoUs will be in the field of renewable energy, while the other will be for cleaner energy mechanisms, she added.

Denmark is witnessing a decoupling of energy consumption and carbon emissions.

With the help of sustainable energy technologies, renewable energy now forms 16 per cent of the total energy consumption and the country will double the share of renewable energy resources by 2025, Ms Steffensen said.

New and Renewable Energy Secretary V Subramanian said instead of energy independence, countries across the globe should focus on energy trade.

''There is a shift required from energy independence to energy security. A concerted effort should also be made to raise the share of renewable energy in the overall energy consumption,'' he added.

He also called on Danish and Indian companies to work closely for a sustainable energy technology.
