Heavy security during Advani's MP visit

Jabalpur, Feb 6 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's cantonment town was converted into a veritable fortress due to the terrorist threat perception to the Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani who launched his Vijay Sankalp Yatra here today.

Police personnel were requisitioned from this division's districts and Army cooperation sought to protect Mr Advani who enjoys Z plus security cover. About 15 Indian Police Service officers besides intelligence agencies were part of the set-up.

Entry of heavy vehicles was prohibited since morning.

Hotels, the railway station, bus stand and key public places were under priority surveillance during the night. People approaching Garrison Ground, where Mr Advani addressed a public meeting, were frisked almost half-a-dozen times. Security was bar taut at Dumna Airport. Mr Advani arrived by a special plane at about 1500 hrs and left for Delhi at 1755 hrs.

Saddam Hussein's half-brother executed

Baghdad, Jan 15: A lawyer for one of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants said he and another condemned aide were hanged today, although there was no official confirmation.
