Kerala: Farmers Congress concludes

Kannur, Feb 6: The two-day Farmers Science Congress that unveiled experiments and practices to agriculturists concluded here yesterday.

A veteran farmer, M J Joseph, from Chemberi in Kannur, was presented with the Distinguished Agriculture Inventor (DAR) award, carrying a gold medal, citation and certificate at the session.

Eighty-four papers were presented in the event organised by the Kerala Agriculture University.

Farmers presented their novel farm techniques and practices in agricultural engineering, agronomy, agro-processing, plant protection and animal husbandary at the Congress.

R J Thomas (agriculture engineering), Abraham Mathew (plant breeding), P V Divakaran (agronomy), P Raghavan (agro processing), N Vasavan (plant protection), P A Chandran (animal husbandary) and Pheolix Mathew (general) were presented with the best awards on Farmers researches.

3-day-old baby mauled to death by stray dog

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by.....
