'Create good environment for implementation of rural schemes'

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Terming ''unfortunate'' the attacks on social activists carrying out social audit of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today said corrective measures were being taken to prevent corruption in implementation of the scheme.

Presiding over the 4th meeting of the Central Employment Guarantee Council here, Dr Singh advised state administrations to ensure conducive environment for the effective implementation of the Centrally sponsored rural employment schemes.

He said guidelines issued for the successful implementation of the NREGA should be followed in letter and spirit.

The minister referred the draft CAG report and said instructions were being issued to the states for initiating corrective measures.

Referring to the reported incident of attack on social activists conducting social audit of the NREGP in a state, Dr Singh said such incidents were unfortunate and deserve condemnation.

''Instead the social audit should be promoted and fostered as it helps check the corrupt practices, if any,'' he said.

Dr Singh said nobody would be permitted to prevent the momentum of the NREGP and every action should be oriented to serve the interest of the rural masses who were deprived of a lot of opportunities.
