Cong trying to exert political pressure: Mayawati

Patna, Feb 6: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati today alleged that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was trying to reopen the Disproportionate Asset (DA) case and influence the investigation in the Taj episode to exert political pressure on her.

Addressing a party rally here, Ms Mayawati dubbed both Congress and BJP anti-Dalits and said they were hell-bent on finishing her politically by implicating her in false cases. She said the previous BJP government at the Centre had implicated her in the Taj episode in 2003 and also lodged a DA case against her to check growing political influence of the BSP across the country.

'' Although, I got relief in DA case but the Congress was trying to reopen it to exert political pressure on me, '' she remarked saying the Congress was also adopting the line of action initiated by the BJP in this regard.

'' Even if the Congress succeeds in putting me behind the bars, there would not be any political loss to the BSP and it would gain the strength rapidly instead, due to vigorous campaign by her party workers in protest against the witch-hunt by the UPA government at the Centre, '' she thundered.

Tracing the role of the Congress in meting out discriminatory treatment to Dalits during pre-Independence era, Ms Mayawati alleged that it had humiliated veteran oppressed class leader Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar and said this sort of approach of the Congress was also visible in current poltical arena, as was evident from the political vendetta against her by the UPA government.
