Army officer gets two years in prison for raping IA official

Tikamgarh, MP, Feb 6 (UNI) A special court here today sentenced a senior army official to two-year imprisonment for raping an Indian Airlines official.

Special Judge R N Patel handed down the punishment and imposed a fine of Rs 25000 on Colonel Parwinder Singh Ahluwalia, convicted for raping an Indian Airlines Assistant General Manager.

According to prosecution, Parwinder, posted at the Central Works Department in Jhansi, had earlier duped the victim of Rs 60,000 on the promise of providing job to her brother in the army.

On her demand for returning the amount, the accused took the woman to Orchha, a tourist spot here on March 13, 1999, and sexually assaulted her.

She lodged a complaint in this regard at Orchha police station.

Teachers demand exclusive higher secondary directorate

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 6 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Schools Post Graduate Teachers Association today urged the State Government to establish an exclusive directorate for higher secondary education.
