AMD, AIF launch internet learning lab in govt school

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (UNI) Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a leading global provider of innovative processing solutions in computing, and the American India Foundation (AIF) today launched a learning lab in the Government Girls High School here.

Inaugurating the lab, Global Consumer Electronics Group Vice-President and General Manager and AMD Canada President Adrian Hartog said the lab reiterated AMD's commitment to connect 50 per cent of the world's population to internet by 2015 under the aegis of its 50x15 initiative.

He said the lab, equipped with AMD Athlon Dual-Core processor-based Microsoft IQ PCs, would provide affordable internet access to more than 450 children in the school.

He said the initiative was aimed at empowering a larger segment of the world's population by providing internet access.

He said the lab was second in the country, the first one being operated in Bangalore since November last year.

''We have ensured state-of-the-art infrastructure facility to these students, who have the will to learn,'' said AMD R and D Centre (India) Managing Director Dasaradha R Gude.

AIF President Lata Krishnan, who was also present on the occasion said the foundation's efforts had been focused on accelerating social and economic change in the country and the collaboration with the AMD for the 50x15 initiative had taken a step further towards the collective goal of providing education to underprivileged students by harnessing the power of technology.

China lacks moral ground to be 'super power'

Brussels, Dec 5: Tibetan spiritual leader, The Dalai Lama, has said that if China wants to be seen as a super power in the 21st century, it has to first acquire and improve its moral authority.Addressing the European Parliament here, the Dalai Lama said on China: "One important factor is moral authority and that is lacking. Because of its very poor record on human rights and religious freedom and freedom of expression and freedom of the press - too much.....
