Lucknow, Feb 6 (UNI) A major rift has surfaced in the Left Front, with the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) set to take a decision on the future course of action during the national executive slated at Nagpur next week.
''Party's highest decision making body would meet at Nagpur from February 15 to 17 to discuss the issue related to the recent development in West Bengal after yesterday's firing by the party supporters at Dinhata'', said AIFB general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Debrabrata Biswas here today.
Talking to UNI Mr Biswas said the act was 'shameful' for the entire Left Front and the CPI(M) should be held reponsible for the undemocratic attitude.
Claiming that the day long West Bengal strike against the police firing in which seven people were killed, Mr Biswas said the spontonous response for the strike proves the peoples' annoyance with the CPI(M).
Though maintaining that the situation had not become worse that the AIFB could pull out from the Bengal government, he said some remedial measures have to be taken by the CPI(M) for the Left Front unity.
''Now it was upto Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya to assure the partners that they would run the government on democratic norms and avoid the double speak'', he said.
Hinting that the Left Front unity in Tripura assembly polls had already been shattered when the CPI(M) refused to give any seats to the AIFB, he said they have already announced to contest 12 seats alone thus breaking the Left Front which was continuing there since 1974.
'' CPI(M) leaders should learn a lesson from Tripura and avoid any such division in the Left Front in West Bengal where the image of the government took a nose dip following the Nandigram eposide'', he said.
Alleging that the CPI(M) was totally diviated from its ideology of communism and socialism, Mr Biswas said that they have now changed themselves as the supporters of capitalists through Singur and their approach towards the SEZs.
''It was an unfortunate trend that the state government officials of the state were trying to control the Left Front'', he added.
