365 candidates files nomination for Tripura election

Agartala, Feb 06 (UNI) As many as 365 candidates of 14 political parties and Independents have filed nomination for the February 23 election to 60-member Tripura Assembly in the past seven days.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) G S G Ayyanger told media here today that altogether 90 candidates had filed 163 nominations on the last day of filing nomination and the scrutiny would be held tomorrow as per the schedule.

He said about 81 candidates had filed nomination as Independents.

The highest number of ten candidates filed nominations in Ramchandraghat and Surma constituencies each followed by Kadamtala at nine and Kurti at eight, Dr Ayyanger informed.

Meanwhile, only three major parties the Congress, CPI(M) and BJP had filed nominations in two constituencies - Majlishpur and Jubarajnagar this time, he said.

Dr Ayyanger however, added that altogether 53 general observers and all six expenditure observers had already reached the state and most of them had resumed duty in their respective constituencies.
