233 arrests made so far, govt to protect migrants: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Feb 6 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today made it clear that migrants living in he city and elsewhere in the state would be given full protection, and asserted that individuals or organisations harassing them would be dealt with sternly.

Mr Deshmukh was speaking at a meeting to review the law and order situation in the state with the top brass of the state police.

Since February three, 143 supporters of Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and 90 activists of Samajwadi Party have been arrested, and 14 cases have been filed against them.

Top MNS leaders Bala Nandgaonkar and Shishir Shinde were arrested on Tuesday, he said.

The Chief Minister said people trying to disrupt the atmosphere of peace and harmony in the city will be brought to book. ''No matter what the stature of the person is, he will not be allowed to take law into his hands,'' Mr Deshmukh warned.

Deshmukh directed the police force to ensure that common man is not harassed in any manner, and deal strictly with anti-social elements.

Bhutto assassination: Scotland Yard alleges non-coop
