17 including former minister injured in Maoists' attack

kathmandu, Feb 6 (UNI) At least 17 persons including a Nepali Congress (NC)lawmaker and former minister Dilendra Prasad Badu and a dozen policemen were injured in Maoist attack in a village in far western of Darchula district, local media reported today.

The NC activists were injured in a clash that ensued after the Maoist cadres tried to foil the NC's election campaign at Latinath VDC in Darchula district near the Indian border, it said.

Mr Badu has received critical injuries and other activists have received injuries in the head and legs.

The injured were airlifted to the capital today for treatment, Kantipur quoted its local reporter as saying.

The Maoist cadres picketed the house of a local NC activist Mohan Singh Dhami, where the NC team was taking lunch, and pounced on them, said Darchula Chief District Officer Yagy Raj Bohara.

During the scuffle, the Maoists torched 12 houses of the village apart from looting a rifle, a pistol and a communication set from the police, said police Inspector Amar Bahadur Bom.

The Young Communist League has been criticised by political parties and even some times Maoists leadership for resorting to violent activities against the opposition parties.

22 police officials transferred in UP

Lucknow, Feb 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today transferred 22 police personnel, including five Inspector- Generals of Police (IG) and five Deputy Inspector Generals in the state. According to the State Home Ministry, Praveen Singh, IG, DGP office has replaced Shiv Narayan Singh, IG Kanpur Zone, who moves to Varanasi in the same capacity. Kashmir Singh, IG Varanasi has been placed at DGP office, whereas Bijendra Singh, IG (Admn), DGP's office has been sent.....

New Chief Secretary appointed in K'taka

Bangalore, Feb 6 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today ordered shifting of Chief Secretary P B Mahishi to Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) as its Chairman. According to official sources here, Mr Sudhakar Rao has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state. Mr Rao was currently Additional Chief Secretary and State Development Commissioner. Mr Mahishi was appointed as Chief Secretary by the previous JD(S)-BJP coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy......

Former minister moves HC to challenge delimitation

Kendrapada, Feb 6 (UNI) Former Orissa Higher Education Minister and senior Congress leader Bhagabat Prasad Mohanty has moved the High Court challenging the decision of the Delimitation Commission to convert Kendrapada Assembly segment, in a Scheduled Caste reserve seat. Mr Mohanty moved the High Court as he failed to get justice from the state's chief Delimitation Commissioner and Delimitation Commission of India on his plea.
