Surajkund Mela showcases works of over 300 craftpersons

Surajkund, Feb 3 (UNI) The fortnight long Surajkund Crafts Mela is showcasing the works of 350 master craftpersons, of whom 70 per cent are National Awardees, State Awardees and Merit Certificate holders.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesman of Haryana Tourism said Surajkund Mela had brought Haryana on the international map besides providing the finest traditions of Indian crafts.

Mrs Asha Hooda, wife of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today visited the Surajkund Mela, on its second day. She was given a traditional welcome by colourful and fascinating folk dancers from West Bengal. She was spell bound to see the performance of the folk artists on her arrival to 'Choupal', a stage which sets the tone of vibrancy in the entire mela.

She took a keen interest in Surajkund Design Galleries and specially lauded the home products designed by artist Mukul Goyal.

During her visit to the 'Apna Ghar', which showcases the lifestyle of the rural people of West Bengal, she appreciated the efforts of Surajkund Mela Authority and the Governments of Haryana and West Bengal for such a grand effort.

She said the mela was aimed not only in providing entertainment and wonderful shopping experience but also making it a learning experience for the visitors, craftsmen and designers. She interacted with the designers and craftspersons and appreciated their stalls and artifacts.

'Sambhalpuri', a traditional dance of Orissa was also presented on the occasion.
