Sports promotion for blinds in pipeline

Lucknow, Feb 3 (UNI) Rajya Sabha member and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra today announced to organise an international level blind cricket tournament soon in Uttar Pradesh.

While watching the blind cricket final match at the K D Singh Babu stadium here, Mr Mishra told the newspersons that he is planning to organise an International cricket championship for blinds on the occasion of 200th birth anniversary of Lewis Breilly, the inventor of Breilly system.

Presently, the blind sportsmen are confined to indoor games like chess and carrom, outdoor games would soon make their place beginning with football and cricket, he said.

''We are planning to form a UP football team on the lines of European countries, where football matches for blind is a common event.'' Sensing the hardships faced by Physically challenged persons, he said '' Assitance will also be extended to them in jobs, education and all type of competitive exams.'' Further, blind institutions would be increased, he added.

Praising Indian cricketers Kaif and Raina, who guided the blind cricketers last year, he said the physically challenged cricketers were touched and remembers each and every moment even today.

Akshay books berth in finals of BT Honda Pro-Am of Champions

Mumbai, Feb 2 (UNI) Akshay Kilachand booked a berth in the National finals of the 13th edition of the BT Honda Pro-Am of Champions, to be held at the Classic Golf Resort, Delhi, on March 9. In the Western Regional round held at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club here today, Akshay emerged winner in the 0-8 handicap catgeory. Also joining Akshay were Dilip Sharma and Bob Sivaram, winners in the 9-16 and 17-24 handicap categories.....
