Pre-poll violence in Mokokchung district

Kohima, Feb 3: At least three people were injured, one of them seriously, and four houses damaged in pre-poll violence in Khar village at Janpetkong Assembly constituency under Mokokchung district.

Official sources said here today that the violence erupted early yesterday when about 300 supporters of Congress leader I Imkong entered the village, fired indiscriminately and hurled explosive materials.

In the process, they completely damaged four houses and Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) candidate Dr I Longri and two other persons were injured in the firing.

Later, in the afternoon, there was an altercation with the villagers, but by then, the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel came to the village and opened fire, injuring one of the NPF workers.

All the injured persons were admitted to a local hospital in Mokokchung.

Sources in Khar village alleged that some underground activists were also camping in the area.

Nagaland headed for White Revolution: Rio

Kohima, May 23: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said Nagaland was switching-over from Green Revolution to "White Revolution", which he termed as the success story of the farmers. Addressing a programme for distribution of Tractors and Power tillers, organised under Chief minister's Corpus Fund in connection of the ongoing "year of farmers" at Agri Expo site in Dimapur yesterday, Mr Rio called for optimum harnessing of "the strength of our area", the Agri allied.....
