Patil wants all-party meet on response in SC on Cauvery case

Bangalore, Feb 3 (UNI) Congress Leader H K Patil today urged Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur to convene an all-party meeting to finalise the State Government's response to an application filed by Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court seeking a directive to restrain Karnataka from taking up new works in the Cauvery Basin.

In a press note here, Mr Patil said the government should hold an all-party meeting to take them into confidence before reaching a consensus on filing a reply.

''In view of the Supreme Court directive, which gave 15 days for the Karnataka Government to file a reply, it is imperative to call an all-party meeting to finalise the state's stand on the issue,'' he said.

Keeping in view the drinking water needs of Bangalore, other cities and areas of the Cauvery Basin, the State had to continue its constitutional and legal battle to achieve the goals of justice, he said.

Riparian Tamil Nadu had filed a petition asking the court to order Karnataka to stop all the the new irrigation projects in the Basin as it went against the final report given by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
