Patil urges Governor to convene all-party meeting

Bangalore, Feb 3 (UNI) Congress leader H K Patil today urged the Governor to convene an all-party meeting to finalise the state government's stand in the wake of Supreme Court's directive on taking up new works in the Cauvery basin.

In a press note, Mr Patil said that the government should hold an all party meeting to take them into confidence before finalising a consensus decision for filing a reply before the Apex Court.

"In view of the order by SC, it is imperative to call an all party meeting to finalise the state stand on the Cauvery issue since the reply to petition filed by Tamil Nadu is to be submitted to the court in 15 days," he said.

Keeping in view the drinking water needs of Bangalore and other cities and areas of Cauvery basin the state had to continue its constitutional and legal battle to achieve the goals of justice, he said.

Riparian Tamil Nadu had filed a petition asking the court to order Karnataka stop all the new irrigation projects in the basin as it went against the final report given by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
