New Delhi, Feb 3 (UNI) The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that Pakistan is interested only in taking back hardcore terrorists lodged in Indian Jails.

Additional Solicitor General Amarinder Sharan told the bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and G S Singhvi on February 1 that Pakistan wants to take back only hardcore militants so that they can be reused for similar militant activities in India again.

The apex court, however, directed the Central Government to make a policy within two months for exchange of prisoners.

The Centre expressed its helplessness in view of the non-cooperative attitude of the Pakistan Government.

The response of the Central Government came on a PIL filed by the Panthers Party cheif Bhim Singh seeking directions to the Government to release and deport Pakistanis languishing in Indian jails without trials.

They were mainly lodged in Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan jails.

In all there are 52 such prisoners.

The Government of India is, however, not interested in releasing those prisoners who were involved in militant activities or were facing the charges of sedition or were a threat to the nation.
