Over 90,000 get employment under NREGA in Haryana

Chandigarh, Feb 3 (UNI) The Haryana government has provided employment to 98,953 households under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in the districts of Ambala, Mewat, Mahendergarh and Sirsa.

Under the scheme, a sum of Rs 67 crore has been incurred and 1478 developmental works have been completed, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharambir Singh said here today.

He said that during the next financial year, NREGA would be extended in the remaining 16 districts of the state and a sum of Rs 560 crore would be available to generate employment and creation of assets in the state.

He said that out of 1478 developmental works, 370 workspertaining to water conservation had been completed to ensure recharging of ground water. Besides tree plantation on 348 hectares of land had been completed and 207 micro irrigation works in these districts were executed.

Apart from this, 119 traditional water bodies have been desilted.

The Chief Parliamentary Secretary said that Sirsa district was leading in implementing NREGA, where a sum of Rs 31.07 crore had been incurred on executing developmental works in the villages of the districts.

He further added that under NREGA, all rural households were being provided 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year whose adult members voluntarily would be ready to do unskilled manual work. Under the scheme, the employment implementing agencies were providing wages at the rate of Rs 135 per man-day to the worker engaged in this process.
