Nitish for development of NIT as ''Centre of Excellence''

Patna, Feb 3 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today exhorted the alumni of National Instituite of Technology to strive for establishing it as a ''Centre of Excellence''.

While addressing the ''old boys meet'' of the institution here, Mr Kumar said the state government would extend all assistance if its alumni took initiative in this regard.

Mr Kumar also cautioned that Patna was placed in high seismic zone and advocated for construction of quack resistant buildings to avert the casualties.

''If Bhuj like earthquake occurs in Patna, more than five lakh people will lose their lives,'' he pointed out.

He announced that the state government would provide 100 acres of land to the NIT for its growth as premier Institute of Technology in the coming days.

Bangladesh may import gas from Myanmar

8 killed, 21 hurt in accident near Amravati

Nagpur, Feb 3 (UNI) At least eight persons, including four women and three children, were killed and 21 others injured, 10 of them seriously, when their tractor-trolley overturned in Amravati district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.
