Hafed launches commercial warehousing scheme for farmers in Haryana

Chandigarh, Feb 3 (UNI) HAFED has launched a Commercial Warehousing Scheme to provide vacant covered space to member farmers and traders under commercial warehousing scheme.

Under the scheme the farmers would be given space on concessional rates to store their produce, Agriculture Minister H S Chatha stated here today.

He said that HAFED had floated a scheme for storage the wheat, paddy and rice on concessional storage charges and the interest on the loan amount would be given to the depositors.

Mr Chatha said that HAFED would charge storage charges at the rate of Rs 2.50 per quintal per month on the stocks of paddy and rice received from the private traders under commercial warehousing scheme. The interest would be charged at the rate of Rs 10 per cent annually on loan on monthly basis.

He said that with a view to help the farmers, HAFED had also adopted a scheme to charge less interest from the farmers on the storage on their produce. Under this scheme, HAFED would charge at the rate of Rs 2 per quintal per month besides the interest on the loan would be charged at the rate of Rs 7 per cent annually.

The Agriculture Minister said that godowns of 65560 MT capacity had been constructed in the state to meet the growing requirement of keeping the foodgrains safe. He said that godowns of 33,000 MT of capacity were under construction in the State which included 15,000 MT capacity godown at Naval, 5000 MT capacity of godowns each at Indri and Ghasola and 8000 MT capacity of godowns at Rohtak.
