East Bengal wins crucial tie in I-League vs Mahindra United

Kolkata, Feb 3 (UNI) East Bengal took a surprise 1-0 win over powerful contenders Mahindra United in the I-league at Salt Lake here today.

East Bengal now have 15 points from 15 plays and the visitors, Mihandra, stood at 21 points from fifteen matches.

With this crucial win, the hosts just avoided from being relegated.

The all important goal for East Bengal came in the 5th minute when striker Rahim Nabi converted a drifter from Subashis Roy Choudhury.

Mahindra United, however, had a rosy chance to equalise the score in the midway of the first half when Surojit Bose let loose a Sushil Kumar pass straight into the safe hands of Subrata Paul, the custodian of East Bengal.

In the second half the play remained stuck to the mid-field as both the teams tried to gain advantage over the other and in the process the play looked a mediocre.
