ASSOCHAM opposes reservation to privatae sector in UP

Lucknow, Feb 3 (UNI) The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) today said they are opposed to the forceful implementation of reservation in the private sector by the Uttar Pradesh government.

''We only support reservation in the private sector, when it is implemented with our remommendations'', said ASSOCHAM president Venugopal N Dhoot here.

Talking to mediapersons Mr Dhoot, also the chairman of the Videocon Group of Industries, said the industries need at least 3 to 4 years for the implementation of the reservation system in the private sector.

However, Mr Dhoot supported the Mayawati government's new proposal for the industrys of implementing the reservation policy -- 10 per cent each for the SC, Other Backwards and poor of the upper caste -- if they want additional benefits from the government.

''We the industries need some more time to implement the reservation and it would be better that the centre or the state governments don't force us through Parliament Act or passing a bill from the state assemblies'', he stated.

Earlier in August last year, the UP government had made it mandatory for all the new industrial units to enforce reservation in the jobs, if they want government's benifits.

The BSP government had also urged the Prime Minister to bring a new legislation in the Parliament to give reservation to the SC, OBCs and poor of the upper caste in the private sector.
