7 shops gutted in Kohima

Kohima, Feb 03: Altogether seven shops, including a restaurant and a pharmacy, were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out in the Phoolbari area of Kohima town this morning.

Fire Brigade sources said the fire erupted at around 0400 hours this morning and three fire tenders were pressed into service and they doused the flames within half an hour.

The cause of fire was not yet known, but electrical short circuit was suspected.

Property worth over Rs 60 lakh was destroyed in the fire, the sources added.

However, there was no casualty or injury due to the blaze.

Teachers body demand VC's resignation

Kohima, Feb 22 (UNI) Central executive council of Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) has demanded the resignation of Vice-Chancellor G D Sharma within a week. In an ultimatum served by NUTA president Akali Sema and general secretary N Savino, the VC was held responsible for disapprearance of assets worth Rs 20 crore in Nagaland Univesity (NU). They alleged that despite the approval of Rs 68.70 crore for setting up an engineering college, it was yet to be set.....

Aizawl, Feb 22: Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) has suggested to initiate an inter-state collaborative intervention to reduce the risk of flesh trade across Northeast as well as to arrest growing threat of HIV/AIDS in the region.A joint report of AusAID and National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) revealed that long due modification of school AIDS Education Programme and lack of motivation in designing awareness initiatives as well as inadequate provision for women friendly HIV testing are main reasons of spreading.....

Nagaland headed for White Revolution: Rio

Kohima, May 23: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said Nagaland was switching-over from Green Revolution to "White Revolution", which he termed as the success story of the farmers. Addressing a programme for distribution of Tractors and Power tillers, organised under Chief minister's Corpus Fund in connection of the ongoing "year of farmers" at Agri Expo site in Dimapur yesterday, Mr Rio called for optimum harnessing of "the strength of our area", the Agri allied.....
