13 police officers transferred in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 3 (UNI) At least 13 senior police officers, including two Deputy Inspector General of Police, were transferred yesterday on instructions of the Election Commission.

According to the decision, the concerned officials were asked to join their new places of posting immediately to monitor the February 23 Assembly polls.

The transfer was made following ECI guidelines of transparency management to ensure a free, fair and model election in Tripura.

Meanwhile, ruling CPI(M) alleging that the Congress workers burnt party flags, lodged a complaint on destruction of flags and festoons of the party in Kulai constituency of Dhalai district yesterday.

Dowry victim sets self, daughter on fire

Mirzapur, Feb 3 (UNI) Driven by continuous harrying by in laws over dowry, a young woman allegedly set self and her infant daughter on fire in Adalhatt area of this Uttar Pradesh district. Lalita Devi (20) set self and two-month-old daughter on fire after dousing kerosene late last night. The two succumbed on the spot. According to police, Lalita was continuously harassed for dowry and she took the drastic step after failing to satisfy the greed.....

Emergency response service to be operational in MP from April

Bhopal, Feb 3 (UNI) The Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) today announced that its '108' emergency response service would be operational in Madhya Pradesh from April. The EMRI and the state government had signed a memorandum in this regard on November 25, 2007, to provide free police, medical and fire emergency services to the people. EMRI Chief Executive Officer C Venkat Changavalli said the goal of EMRI was to create unified emergency.....

'EC not able to conduct K'taka polls according to DC's report'

New Delhi, Feb 3 (UNI) The Election Commission will not be in a position to hold the coming assembly election in Karnataka slated for April or May in accordance with the recently recommended Delimitation Commission(DC) report, according to EC sources.
