Minister refutes Cong leader's allegations

Hyderabad, Feb 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah today refuted the allegations made by Congress leader V Purushotham Reddy that the Government was diverting the Krishna water from Telangana region to Rayalaseema region.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said the Government was committed to the equal development of all the regions in the State.

He said there was no truth in the letter addressed to the AICC Chairperson Sonia Gandhi by Mr Reddy, stating that the assured water from the Krishna basin was diverted to the Rayalaseema and urging her to constitute a committee to look into the matter.

He said the Government had provided 289.34 tmc of water from Krishna basin to Telangana region as against 162.36 tmc of water to Rayalaseema through the major and medium irrigation projects.

The Government was planning to bring Godawari waters through Sri Ramsagar to provide water to 2.57 lakh acre of land in Telangana region, he claimed.
