Light rains in Delhi, mercury drops to 2.9 degrees C

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) Light rains hit Delhi this evening even as the chill sweeping the capital city persisted today with the mercury dropping to 2.9 Degree Celsius.

Light rainfall brought down the day temperature by two to three degrees.

Though only traces of rainfall were recorded till 2000 hrs, it brought down the day temperature from 20 degrees C to 18 degrees C.

Earlier in the day, cold Northwesterly winds continued to lend chill to the air in the Capital with the minimum temperature falling sharply, from 4.1 degrees yesterday, to 2.9 degrees today, six degrees below normal.

Clouds in the sky, however, led to a slight rise in maximum temperature to 20.3 degrees C.

The weathermen have forecast an abatement in chill in the city in the coming days.

''There is likely to be an increase in night temperatures by 4-5 degrees C during next 48 hrs. over the plains of northwest India and consequent abatement of cold wave conditions during the next 24 hrs,''the weathermen said.

The weather office have forecast a rise in minimum temperature to 7 Degrees C tomorrow.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with possibility of light rain or thundershowers tonight or tomorrow morning.

Fog paralyses London's Heathrow airport again

London, Dec 22: Thousands of travellers struggling to get home for Christmas faced another day of chaos and frustration today as London's Heathrow airport was blanketed in fog. ''The weather across much of the UK is regrettably showing little sign of improvement,'' said Geoff Want, director of ground operations for British Airways which has cancelled all domestic flights. Boeing 747 Jumbo jets are being put on some European routes to try and deal.....
