Rs 9 cr worth of illicit liquor seized since arrack ban in K'taka

Bangalore, Feb 1: Since the sale and manufacture of Arrack was banned during August last year, about Rs nine crore worth of illicit liquor, spirit and spurious IML had been seized in Karnataka.

Mr K R Srinivasan Director General and Inspector General of Police, Excise Enforcement in a press release issued here stated that the Cell raided many places and seized illicit liquor worth of Rs 8.75 crore till January 31. In appreciation of the good work done by the personnel of the cell, a cash reward of Rs 18.15 lakh was announced. The recipients of the award also included Police Commissioner of Hubli and Dharwad (Rs 2.25 lakhs) and two SP's from Dharwar and Belgaum who will Rs 2 lakhs each for their exemplary feat.

The JD(S)-BJP coalition government had imposed ban on the sale and manufacture of arrack, the poorman's booze, during in August last year.
