Hubli, Feb 1: Former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) K Kasturirangan today stressed the need for providing 33 per cent reservation to women in every field.
Addressing students at the Mahila Viddyapeetha here, he said women were way ahead in respect of learning at top level and it was the right time they played their role in public life. It was high time that Parliament pass the Bill on Women's reservation, Dr Kasturirangan, who is member of the Rajya Sabha, said.
Earlier, talking to newspersons, he expressed satisfaction that almost all projects taken up by ISRO were making progress and said astronomy satellite could be launched next year. Replying to a question, Dr Kasturirangan said it was for the universities in Karnataka to take the initiative to adopt e-education through satellite, on the lines of Vishweshwaraiah Technological University.
IIT Mumbai had adopted the facility two days ago.
To another question, he said distant education through satellite had already commenced in Chamarajanagar district to help school students.
Stating that the Karnataka government was planning to extend the facility to around 800 schools in the state, he said it was just a supplementary education since it could not be made interactive education as the number of students was more and it was suitable for universities.
