Guj a triumph of good governance: Advani

New Delhi, Jan 29: Showering praises on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the triumph of 'good governance and development' over the vote bank politics, BJP's Prime Ministerial nominee L K Advani today said none in the BJP family would grudge his political rise.

In his concluding address at the BJP National Council, Mr Advani said there had been 'taunting questions' about the rise of Mr Modi in the political horizon and it was being questioned if he had grown beyond the party. The intentions behind asking such question is to sow the seeds of differences but the questioner should understand that the BJP is like a family which will not grude a young man earning more than the head of the family," he said.

Mr Advani's word of praise for Mr Modi came after the latter described the former as the 'right successor' to fill the place of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said Mr Modi has shown the country that development and good performance has won over the crooked designs of vote bank politics.

''I want to ask the Home Minister how long it would take the government to decide upon the mercy petition of Mohammad Afzal, the guilty in the Parliament attack case. It is a shame for the country that the families of slain security forces had returned the honours to the government protesting the delay in executing the condemned prisoner,'' he said.

Mr Modi said Congress was fondly hoping that the BJP would lose the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand in the next Lok Sabha polls. Their hopes have been dashed in Gujarat and will meet the same fate in the coming elections also. The Government, he alleged, was pondering over the what sort of elections would be beneficial for the Congress.
