Mumbai, Jan 28: Infosys mentor N R Narayana Murthy today said the recession in the United States would not have any adverse impact on the Indian economy. On the contrary, it would create opportunities for the Indian corporates, including IT companies, he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

''The fact that there may be a slowdown in the US could be taken as somewhat good for the Indian market. We can look at it as an opportunity'', he said. Answering a query, Mr Murthy said the focus on better allocation of money means a greater opportunity for India. ''Indian IT companies were reasonably well placed to withstand the shocks if any,'' he stated. Mr Murthy inaugurated Bank of Baroda's 'First Financial Supermarket' and its 1,575th core banking branch at Aizwal in Mizoram through a tele conference.

The confidence of visionaries like Narayana Murthy can motivate a large number of terrified business leaders - particularly exporters and IT outsourcing hubs. They will do well, US recession notwithstanding, if they really continue minding their own business with sincerity and dedication. India is indeed starting to shine now! Karan Kharb
