Thane Civil Hospital being ungraded to 'Super Speciality'

Thane, Jan 27 (UNI) Once neglected, Thane District Civil Hospital is embarking upon a major expansion, said Eknath Shinde, Thane MLA and District Shiv Sena Chief, and declared that very soon he will upgrade the hospital into a 'Super Specialty' hospital that would be affordable to common man and tribals in the district.

This hundred-year-old hospital handles around 600 out patients and has a capacity of 336 beds.

Thane District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik and Mr Shinde inspected the facilities and the under-construction building that will house various additional amenities. Mr Naik today inaugurated dialysis and leproscopic facilities in the hospital. Civil surgeon Dr Pramod Chapalgaonkar told Mr Shinde that the new building would have psychiatric ward and medical stores also. Besides this, it will have the MRI centre and Cathlab which is most needed here.

Dr Chapalgaonkar informed Mr Shinde that Rs 5 crores of fund was available from various sources and around Rs 4 crores would be spent on the MRI facility.

The present cost of the MRI in the private hospitals is in thousands while the district civil hospital will provide it in few hundreds, it was also decided to recover the balance from the other patients who could shell out more fees.

While talking about increasing the strength of the staff in the hospital, Mr Shinde suggested that a proposal be forwarded to him which would be taken up at appropriate forum and pushed through for funding by the Health Ministry.
