Shimla, Jan 27 (UNI) Shimla town recorded another cold night at minus 2.5 degree Celsius for the seventh consecutive time with Himachal Pradesh in the grip of an intense coldwave with several places in the mid and lower hills recording sub zero temperatures.

While the minimum temperature in the state capital continued to remain below freezing point for the seventh consecutive night after experiencing mild snowfall yesterday, the day temperatures rose by a few degrees following clear sky.

The day temperatures also rose in the tribal areas, which had been recording temperatures between minus eight to minus 15 degrees, following bright sunshine during the day.

The minimum temperature at Una town also remained below freezing point at minus 2.7 degrees for the seventh day today, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a night temperature of minus 1.5 and point two degree Celsius respectively.

The met office said there was no report of any snowfall from any part of the state during the day, even though higher reaches of the tribal districts of Kinnuar, Chamba and Lahaul Spiti experienced mild intermettent snowfall last night.

The maximum temperature at Shimla town rose to nine degree Celsius from yesterday's low of 4.6 degrees, while Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Kalpa recorded day temperatures of 15.6, 14.2 and minus 2.2 degrees respectively, it said.

Meanwhile, official sources said movement of light vehicles on the Rekong Peo-Pooh road in Kinnuar district has been restored since yesterday, adding that it was only a question of time before movement of buses and trucks were allowed.

The met office has forecast mainly clear sky in the state during the next 24 hrs.
