Noted author Suresh Dolke passes away

Nagpur, Jan 27 (UNI) Noted author Dr Suresh Mahadev Dolke, considered an authority on religion and philosophy, died after a prolonged illness at a private nursing home here today.

He was 82 and leaves behind 3 sons.

Dr Dolke had been ailing since last month and was undergoing treatment. His end came early today, according to an official release here.

The last rites were performed here this afternoon, it said.

Educated in Amravati, Dr Dolke was a professor of Marathi at a college in Nagpur and taught for 33 years. He was also known for his research and writings on 'Mahanubhav' literature, as well as ancient and spiritual literature. He had won the Maharashtra government's award for best literature in 1984-85 and 1990-91, it added.

CPI(M) bandh call in Nandigram meets mixed response

Nandigram, Oct 29: There was a mixed response to the CPI(M) sponsored 12-hour Nandigram bandh that began at 0600 hours today. Superintendent of Police East Midnapur District G A Srinivasan said, "While it was total in Khejuri I and II blocks, there was practically no response in Nandigram I and II blocks and in Chandipur."
