Case against Sania Mirza for dishonouring national flag

Tirupati, Jan 27: The Tiruchanoor police have registered a case against tennis ace Sania Mirza for allegedly dishonouring the national flag, during her recent tour to Perth for the Hopman Cup.The case was filed under Section 11 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, last night following a direction from Third Additional District Munsif Magistrate of Tirupati S Satyanarayana, Tiruchanoor Sub-Inspector Ramakrishnacharya told UNI here today.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by Advocate Kuthumbaka Ramesh on January 7, alleging that the Hyderabadi lass had dishonoured the national flag. After hearing the arguments, the Magistrate had directed Chittoor District Superintendent of Police T V Sasidhar Reddy on January 24 to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report to the court before March 18. Sania is in Melbourne where she has lost both singles and doubles matches at the Australian Open.
