BJP National Executive likely to attack UPA polices

New Delhi, Jan 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive that is meeting today is likely to wage a political attack on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government's "weaknesses" and is also expected to amend the party's constitution to reserve 33 percent of the party's post for women.

BJP president Rajnath Singh will address the executive. He is likely to focus on "weaknesses and ineffectiveness" of the UPA Government and is expected to draw a strategy for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and Assembly polls in various states. The executive might come out with resolutions on political situation and agrarian issues.

It might be recalled that the last year party's paper on agriculture was termed as a "cut and paste" work of its senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu's speeches, who was Rural Development Minister during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime.

The political resolution will target the "weaknesses" of the Manmohan Singh Government and its way of tackling national security issues.

According to sources in the BJP, the move of reserving posts for women is not going down well within the party and it is being seen as a step to give posts to women relatives of senior leaders.

A majority of male leaders attending the executive are likely to oppose the move to set aside party posts for women, sources said.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will undoubtedly be cynosure of the media.
