Light snowfall in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 26: Srinagar and its adjoining areas experienced light snowfall today resulting in considerable cold.

After experiencing minus 1.8 degree Celcius during the night, tree tops, roofs and electric polls were covereded under a blanket of snow as Srinagar and its adjoining areas received snowfall.

However, the snow melted after the sun came up.

The weather in world famous skii resort Gulmarg and other upper reaches in north Kashmir remained almost dry.

There was also no snowfall in south Kashmir.

A report from Kargil said Drass, the second coldest place after Siberia remained cold with temperature dipping to minus 20 degree during the night.

The weather remained cloudy but there was no snow or rainfall.

A traffic police official said 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was open for both ways.

However, 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway remained closed because of heavy snowfall at Zojila and zero point. The highway was closed on November 15, 2007 for six winter months.

India, Pak Auditors General discuss cooperation

New Delhi, Mar 13: India and Pakistan today agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) of the two countries in areas of public audit and accounts. Pakistan's Auditor General Mohammed Yunis Khan, currently on a five-day visit o India, met Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vijayendra Kaul and discussed with him ways to strengthen cooperation between the SAIs of the two countries. Mr Khan who arrived here yesterday, also met senior officials.....
