Prakash to join Congress on January 27: Kharge

Kharge
Gulbarga, Jan 23: Former Karnataka Home Minister and rebel Janata Dal (Secular) leader M P Prakash will be joining the Congress on January 27 in Bangalore, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Mallikarjuna Kharge said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said Mr Prakash and his followers would be admitted into the party without any condition. ''On the same day, a large number of followers of former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would also be joining the Congress'', he added. To a question about Mr Prakash demanding assurance of party tickets for his followers in the coming Assembly elections, Mr Kharge clarified that '' they are joining unconditionally and the merit for giving ticket was based only on winning chances.

He took strong exception to JD(S) President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's statement that he (Mr Gowda) should not have born in Karnataka, saying that ''it amounted to humiliating and betraying the people of the state''.

''Mr Gowda has made such a statement under distress and despair as the JD(S) had lost significance in the State, with the exit of important leaders'', he added.

Dismissing former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's allegation that Assembly elections in the state were being delayed intentionally, he asked Mr Yeddyurappa to learn the Constitution before blaming as the Governor had nothing to do with holding elections.
