Aamir shows 'Tare Zameen Par' to Advani

New Delhi, Jan 13: In an effort to mend fences with the BJP, actor-director Aamir Khan held a special screening of his film 'Taare Zameen Par' for the party's veteran leader L K Advani in the capital.

Many BJP leaders and special guests were present during the screening here on Friday. BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, who was instrumental in getting the filmstar and Mr Advani together said ''I have been asking him (Aamir) to join the BJP. Good people should join politics to prove wrong the dictum that 'politics is the only refuge of scoundrels','' he told newspersons.

Aamir's support for the Sardar Sarovar project had in the recent past sparked a controversy with several groups in Gujarat vowing not to allow the screening of his films in the state.

Aamir's film 'Fanaa' could not be screened in Gujarat. Even his directorial debut 'Taare Zameen Par' initially faced some problems in Vadodara.

''Gujarat is a huge commercial territory, which cannot be ignored,'' was a cryptic reply from Mr Sinha, when queried about this 'peace' initiative.
