NIMR opens malaria centre at TMH


Jamshedpur,Jan 12(UNI) The National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), one of the institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research, has opened malaral centre at Tata Main Hospital(TMH)here today.

Dr B Ray,General Manager (Medical Services),TMH inaugurated the project in presence of Dr Neena Valecha, Senior Deputy Director, NIMR Delhi, who is the Indian Principal Investigator for the study and Dr Nilanjan Saha, Clinical Lead for Arterolane Project, Ranbaxy.

This centre will be conducting research work under Dr. B. S. Rao, HOD Medicine with support from Pathology Department.

Inaugurating the project,Dr Ray said,''TMH is proud to have such association. It will give us an opportunity to be a part of the national research programme for the cause of poor people. This will also help us to learn the modalities of such research and take up new research work in Tata Main Hospital''.

NIMR has been conducting research in malaria in India and has added TMH recently to expand its work. This is one of the premier organizations, which is conducting research in various aspects of malaria including drug trials. The present study is a phase II clinical trial with a new drug which is a synthetic product having rapid action against malaria parasite similar to artemisinin which is at present the most effective antimalarial available globally.

'Centre to set up 15 MT power plant in J'khand'

Ranchi, Jul 21: Steel Minister Ramvilas Paswan today said the Centre was ready to set up a steel plant having a capacity of 15 million tonnes in Jharkhand if the state government ensures to provide two out of three billion tonnes of iron ore produced by Chiria mines. Talking to reporters at the Birsa Munda airport here, Mr Pawswan said the plant would be set up as per state government's choice as soon as the matter.....
