Fusion of tech

Jhargram, Jan 12: Former President A P J Kalam today stressed the need for combining technical studies with the ethical teachings of Swami Vivekananda for the all-round development of the country.

Addressing at the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Sri Ramakrishna Saradapith Kanya Gurukul here, on the occasion of the 146th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Dr Kalam said besides technology, the teachings of the great philosopher were also important for the empowerment of women in this era.

The Saradapith was founded by Swami Sarbananda, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, the great philosopher who enlightened the world about the principles and tenets of Hinduism at the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago, in September 1893.

Dr Kalam, who is also a great scientist, interacted with the students, who hailed mainly from the socially backward classes like Lodhas, now considered to be a den of Maoists.

The former President was also impressed by the questions that came from the students like how to combat the terrorists and how can the women contribute towards the nation's development.

The girls asked about Dr Kalam's Vision 2020, Uranium and Thorium Technology and ways to combat global warming.

Answering their queries, he advised the girls to fight against corruption.

He also narrated some of his childhood experiences, how he struggled to reach the position, where he stood at present.
